AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A major league baseball umpire was honored in Austintown Saturday morning.

The family of Wally Bell remembered him by dedicating the main field at Austintown Township Park to the late umpire.

Wally died of a heart attack in October of last year.

He was remembered for having a loving personality and being a family man with a love of baseball.

Wally ump’ed in one World Series, multiple all-star games, division series and league championships.

His sister Beckie Hulings said the field will honor her brother for years to come.

“I just hope that somewhere down the road somebody that’s playing on this field finds the love and passion for baseball that Wally had. and i think anybody that had any hand in this to memorialize wally like this is wonderful,” said Beckie Hulings, Wally’s sister.

Wally was a 1983 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
