2 arrested after traffic stop turns up deadly firearms

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Two men were arrested Sunday morning after a traffic stop turned up guns.

Around 7:30 a.m., police were called to Front Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard near the Central Fire Station because two men were sleeping in a car on the street. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed both men had handguns on their waists.

The occupants were not conscious, so police set up a perimeter and used a loudspeaker to wake them up. That’s when police found a sawed-off shotgun in the car.

The driver, Derrick Taylor, is charged with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon, and having a weapon under disability. His passenger, Myron Washington, was charged with improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle.

Both men are in the Mahoning County Jail.
