Camp focuses on public speaking skills

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A week-long camp at the Youngstown YWCA is helping kids with their public speaking skills.

Part of the camp includes a visit to live broadcasting facilities. The kids also will prepare a news broadcast for their parents.

The goal of the camp is to help kids develop confidence with public speaking.

“I am trying to teach them how to stand up in front of people, to present, a lot of them are scared to present in front of people that they do not know, so I am trying to get them skills so they know it’s fine, just speak to them as if you know them,” YWCA camp instructor Kayshia Washington said.

The camp continues through Friday and is part of the YWCA’s Summer STEAM camp series.
