Debris closes portion of Route 18 in Mercer County

Sugar Grove, Pa. (WKBN) – A section of road along Route 18 in Mercer County is closed after dirt and gravel washed onto the road making it impassable.

The section is north of Greenville in the Sugar Grove community. So much rain fell during Sunday’s storms that dirt and gravel washed onto the pavement.

Penn DOT crews were planning to bring in more dirt overnight, but they expect the road to be closed through the morning on Monday.

Downed trees and flooding are also concerns around the area.

“Just a heavy downpour, pretty good storm. I know we have 30 trees that probably are up tonight. We are going to go up into Crawford County and help them cut some more,” said Hempfield Fire Chief Dave King.

Several homes in the area were without power during the storms.

No one was hurt.
