Archives heading to new home

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The archives of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society are closed to the public while the office moves to a new home.

The archives and its contents are moving from the Arms Museum property to the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center.

The move means all of the Historical Society’s records will be located in the same place. The new archive is climate controlled and has special fire protection systems.

“It will be a great situation for everybody, researchers, our staff, volunteers, the public, because we will have the whole collection in one place in a brand new, wonderful, state-of-the-art space,” said MVHS Executive Director Bill Lawson.

Lawson said the archives is the fastest growing portion of the collection, which is all paper-based documents and photographs.
