WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Warren man appeared in court Thursday morning to face charges for pimping out a 17-year-old girl.
Authorities are holding Michael Kollat at the Trumbull County Jail on $50,000 bond. Thursday, Kollat appeared in the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing which set Kollat’s pre-trial hearing for Aug. 21.
Kollat’s jury trial will take place Oct. 6.
Kollat pleaded not guilty Monday to an indictment for five charges: compelling prostitution, intimidation of an attorney, victim or witness in a criminal case, and three counts of promoting prostitution
Prosecutors said Kollat and the girl, who was arrested and charged into juvenile court June 6, used the Internet and other means to recruit customers who were serviced at times out of the Capri Motel in Howland or the Cottage Motel in Niles.
The girl has since become 18 years old, but was a minor during the time frame spelled out in the indictments March 14 to June 6.
Assistant county prosecutor Gabe Wildman said the teenage girl remains uncooperative, but agents with Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force also seized her cell phone that apparently contained communications with Kollat.
The intimidation charge against Kollat stems from a confrontation or threat against a witness/customer at one of the motels used in the scheme.
