Western Pa. apartment fire kills 1, cause sought

PLEASANT HILLS, Pa. (AP) – Authorities say a man died in a fire in an apartment building just outside Pittsburgh in western Pennsylvania.

Emergency officials in Allegheny County said the blaze started in a third-floor unit in the Neopolitan Suites building in Pleasant Hills shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

County emergency services chief Alvin Henderson said local police tried to enter the apartment but were unable to do so.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze before it spread to other apartments and later recovered the body of the victim.

His name was not released pending notification of his relatives. An autopsy was planned to determine the cause of death.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
