Changes coming to YSU scholarship program

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Financial changes are on the way for a scholarship program at Youngstown State University.

University spokesperson Ron Cole said with a new president, YSU is looking at operations to make sure things are running efficiently. This includes looking at scholarship dollars.

The discussions started this week and nothing has been finalized. YSU said the Leslie H. Cochran Scholars Program is successful and the university is looking at ways to make it better.

“Having various discussions about the way the program works now, the way we distribute scholarships now and maybe looking at some of the out-of-the-box ways to distribute them more effectively. That bottom line would benefit as many students as possible here on campus,” Cole said.

YSU says 160 students are part of the program, which offers the students full scholarships.
