Health and prevention focus of Wellness Walk

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – About 1,000 people turned out Saturday for the second annual Mahoning Valley African American Male Wellness Walk.

This year’s theme was “Save a Life.” The area’s walk coordinator Lewis Macklin said he’s excited and encouraged by the numbers that turn out each year for the event, and the large response means people are taking an active part in their health and wellness.

“Prevention is the key to many of the conditions that affect us. If you can get the information, get the knowledge, get the understanding, then you cannot only be better but you’ll do better,” Macklin said. “We believe efforts like this empower people to take responsibility for their own health.”

Similar walks are planned for both Columbus and Toledo.
