Big Reach helps in big way

Big Reach Center of Hope giveaway

GREENFORD, Ohio (WKBN) – Hundreds of students in the Valley are ready for school thanks to the generosity of the Big Reach Center of Hope.

Saturday was the annual back pack giveaway. Kids got to choose what color backpack they wanted and it came packed with school supplies.

Families were also given a voucher for a free haircut and took home a bag of food.

For Tana Dugan of Beloit, the giveaway helps tremendously this time of year.

“It knocks out half of what I have to spend by the time they get to school,” Dugan said. “That in itself is huge with three middle school children and one in high school. The costs just keep going up.”

Lisa Wallace with the Big Reach Center knows something about how hard it is to make ends meet. Her father Scott Lewis heads up the giveaway and has done it for years. Wallace said her parents struggled too when she was young and in school. Her father never forgot those hard times and wanted to do something to help others.

“He developed this passion to help other kids, and that is where all this stemmed from, said Wallace.

The giveaway Saturday serviced 130 families and 300 children from around the area. This is the eleventh year for the event.
