PETERSBURGH, Ohio (WKBN) — Families lined the streets of Petersburg on Sunday night for a parade to kick off Springfield Township Community Day.

Taxpayers got a chance to see all the fire, police and emergency vehicles and personnel who keep them safe.

After the parade, there was free food and games for the kids at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Organizers said they wanted to showcase all the Petersburg community has to offer.

“Have them come out and meet the firemen and meet the EMS people and the police department, and just bring everyone together. We have a pie baking contest, and a little Mr. and Ms. Springfield, ages three to seven, contest,’ said Springfield Township Trustee Robert Orr.

Orr said they plan to hold next year’s community day in New Springfield and at the township’s new fire station at the corner of Unity and Middletown Road the year after that.
