Trumbull County’s new commissioner to be sworn in

TRUMBULL COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) — Mauro Cantalamessa will be sworn in Monday morning as Trumbull County commissioner.

Commissioner and Trumbull County Democrat Party Chair Dan Polivka said that the ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Trumbull County Courthouse.

Cantalamessa replaces Paul Heltzel, who died in June. He was selected last month in a secret ballot by Trumbull County Democrats.

That selection has come under scrutiny by Ohio Democratic chairman Chris Redfern, who claimed using a secret ballot invalidates the process.  Redfern has also threatened to remove Polivka as chair if a new vote was not held.

Ohio Secretary of State, John Husted, said Cantalamessa’s selection is valid.
