Homeowner seeks answers after flood

BERLIN CENTER, Ohio (WKBN) - Celeste Mistovich was unable leave her home on Sunday.

The water was so high and powerful on Mock Road that it blocked her off from the rest of her community. The flood in Berlin Center destroyed her gravel and took away part of her fencing.

She said it’s dangerous because she can’t leave and emergency vehicles are not able to get in. Her husband is highly allergic to bees and if he does not get immediate attention, it could be a matter of life and death.

“I am afraid. I am afraid for my safety, my family’s safety, anyone who comes to visit us,” Mistovich said.

Mistovich said she wants to see local government take action to clean up Turkey Creek. She claims brush and debris are what caused the waters to back up and that it shouldn’t be her responsibility to clear it.

She said she has spent more than $2,800 on curtain drains and restoring the gravel washed away. She has tried contacting the Berlin Township Board of Trustees, but has not seen any changes.

Mistovich does not think as a taxpayer it should be her responsibility to hire and pay someone to fix her home after countless floods.

“This is a health and safety issue that nobody wants to take responsibility for,” Mistovich said.

We put calls in to the Berlin Center Board of Trustees, but did not hear back as of press time.
