Arrest made in stabbing of elderly Sharon woman

SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – Sharon police have made an arrest in the stabbing of 70-year-old Charlotte Alston.

Police issued a warrant earlier Tuesday for Erica Boatwright, 30, of Sharon, and she turned her self in to police around 3:30 p.m. She is charged with criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

Police did not say why they suspected Boatwright, who is on her way to the Mercer County Jail.

Police said Alston let someone at her door into her home in the 300 block of Mesabi Street just before 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. The person then proceeded to stab Alston and flee, according to police. Alston was able to call police at 4:28 a.m.

Emergency workers took Alston to Sharon Regional Hospital where she was treated for multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma, according to police.

Authorities asked her a few questions about the case while she was en route to the hospital, but were not able to question her after she arrived.

Alston was later transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where she is in the intensive care unit.
