Austintown standoff suspect indicted

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man arrested after a Fourth of July standoff in Austintown was indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.

John Andrei, 31, is charged with child endangering, a third-degree felony, and a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence. He posted bond following his arrest July 4 and an arraignment date has not yet been set.

Police said a family member called 911 early in the morning, saying Andrei severely beat his 5-year-old adopted son. When police went to the house in the 6900 block of Kirk Road to arrest Andrei, they said he had a knife and they also saw an empty rifle case, prompting them to call the Crisis Response Team.

Andrei surrendered after several hours.
