Union wants Tressel part of negotiations

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Members of the Youngstown State University faculty union want President Jim Tressel to get more involved in negotiations.

The faculty contract expires Aug. 17, one day before Tressel’s installation ceremony.

Talks have been going on for weeks with no real progress. Tressel said Thursday he is confident both sides can come to an agreement.

“Every time I have ever been with faculty, or staff, or administration or anyone, they know how I feel about them. I feel strongly about how hard they work and what they mean to the institution. But by law, I am not involved in negotiations,” Tressel said.

Classes at YSU begin Aug. 20.
