7-year-old Ohio boy accidentally shot in back

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) – Police in southwestern Ohio say a 7-year-old boy was shot in the back while a group of children were playing with a gun.

The child was in the backyard of his grandparents’ home in Colerain Township on Sunday afternoon when the gun went off. Authorities say the bullet lodged in the boy’s shoulder blade. He was hospitalized, but his condition wasn’t available.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the gun was found behind the home. Police are investigating how it got there and trying to figure out who owns it.

Police say the boy’s brother was in the backyard at the time, but they’re not sure if he was the one who pulled the trigger. Police are still investigating.
