BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Boardman Police arrested a woman Saturday afternoon after they believe she took 13 cans of Monster energy drink from a store, then punched a clerk who tried to confront her, according to a police report.
An employee of the Family Dollar Store on South Avenue told a co-worker she saw a woman police identified as Lauren Hanlon, 54, take a purse full of items from the store out to her car, then re-enter the store on Sat., Aug. 9.
When the co-worker, a female, began to follow Hanlon, according to the report, Hanlon started emptying 13 energy drinks from her purse, then punched the woman in the stomach. A brief struggle ensued, and the woman grabbed Hanlon’s purse as she ran toward the exit yelling, “‘Drive, drive, drive, they got me,'” and was taken away from the scene by a man in a vehicle, according to the report.
It is not clear whether or not the energy drinks were returned to the store. A Family Dollar employee whom WKBN reached by phone had no comment on the incident.
Police later used their records to identify Hanlon as the suspect and her husband, Stephen Hanlon, as the man who they believe drove the getaway car.
Police charged Lauren with robbery and Stephen with complicity to robbery and obstructing justice.
A message left on a phone number listed for Stephen Hanlon on the police report was not immediately returned.
