Wheelchair van crashes, snaps telephone pole in Warren

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A van designed to carry wheelchair users crashed into a telephone pole, snapping it in half, and rolled on its side Tuesday morning in Warren, according to Warren firefighters.

Warren Firefighter John Stull said the van is normally used to carry those in wheelchairs to various locations and appointments but that it was not carrying anyone at the time of the crash. Only the driver was inside, according to Stull.

The crash happened at 140 Atlantic St. in Warren.

The driver was out of the van and being evaluated by emergency medical personnel when Warren Fire workers arrived on the scene, according to an accident report from the Warren Fire Department.

The Warren Fire Department, along with Warren Police, responded to the call. Firefighters were not sure of how the crash happened.

Warren Police were not available for comment.
