Arrest made in Farrell fire

FARRELL, Pa. (WKBN) – Police have made an arrest in an arson investigation in Farrell.

John Andrew Burns, 56, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with a fire at a building on Martin Luther King Boulevard earlier in the day.

Police spotted Burns walking away from the back of his residence at 731 Martin Luther King Blvd. where a couch was on fire.

Earlier Wednesday, fire fighters responded to 717 Martin Luther King Blvd. for a structure fire.

Police believe Burns set the fires at 731 and 717 Martin Luther King Blvd. He was seen walking away from the building and when police began to approach him, be started to walk faster. Officers were able to stop Burns and said they found items on him that could be used to start a fire.

Burns was charged with public drunkenness, arson, causing or risking catastrophe, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and possessing instruments of crime. He is being held for arraignment.
