Dozens gather for vigil after Wal-Mart shooting

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (AP) – Dozens of people gathered to remember a man fatally shot by police at a Wal-Mart and a woman who suffered a medical problem while evacuating the southwestern Ohio store.

Police in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek have said 22-year-old John Crawford III waved an air rifle at customers Aug. 5 and was fatally shot when he wouldn’t drop the weapon.

State officials are assisting in the investigation.

Authorities say 37-year-old Angela Williams died while the store was evacuated.

WDTN-TV reports more than 100 people gathered in the store’s parking lot Thursday night for a vigil. Organizers said the gathering was about healing and moving forward.

Crawford’s family members have requested surveillance video and communications between police and store security. They believe store video will provide answers and vindicate him.
