Police tell students to watch their drinks

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — State officials have reported that college students should watch their drinks as they head back to campuses around Ohio.

The Ohio Investigative Unit indicated that drink drugging often happens at bars and house parties and can lead to sexual assault or robbery. Those types of crimes often goes unreported.

State officials encourage witnesses of potential drink tampering to let the person know their drink may have been compromised and to call 911 right away.

YSU police officers are encouraging students to have fun with their friends, but advise them to watch out for each other and be smart.

“Well never leave your drink unattended if you’re in a bar if you go to a restroom or something just don’t. Have somebody watch it or something that you trust that is not going to slip something in it,” said Lt. Bryan Remias of the YSU Police Department.

Remias said that YSU does host crime prevention seminars to teach students what to watch out for.

He also recommended that if students see something that just doesn’t seem right to give them a call.
