HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) — As kids in the Valley get ready to head back to school, the cost of all those school supplies can add up.
However, parents in Hubbard had a chance to get a little help on Sunday, and the kids got to have some fun at the same time, at an event put on by the Cornerhouse Christian Church.
As the last days of summer wind down for Krista Craft and her kids, they got to enjoy some very special family time Sunday evening in Hubbard.
“I think it’s awesome. I think it’s a great thing for the kids,” said Craft.
The Craft’s, along with dozens of other families, enjoyed some time together at the 3rd Annual Crazy School Supply Giveaway Carnival.
It was put on by the Cornerhouse Christian Church, and there was plenty to do.
“They’re doing games and prizes they said, and food and school supplies,” said Craft.
For many families, those school supplies are especially important.
“It’s free. It’s free. Everything is absolutely free. We’re giving away school supplies and that’s really the big draw,” said Pastor Dave Coxson of Cornerhouse Christian Church.
The kids are expected to walk away with just about everything they need to start the school year.
“We have backpacks and the backpacks come complete. We go to the schools we get a list of the supplies and the people in our church donate,” said event director Marty Nicastro.
There’s a message the church wants kids and their parents to remember.
“That we love them and that God loves them too,” said Nicastro.
A message Krista and her kids take to heart as they get ready for a new school year.
“I think it’s a really cool event and I think a lot more places should do stuff like this for the kids,” said Craft.
