Ex-Columbiana Co. cop charged with defrauding government

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – A former police officer from Columbiana County was in Columbus Monday for a hearing on fraud charges.

Thomas Gamble filed a workers’ compensation claim in 2012 after he said he slipped on ice and hurt his back while serving as a Perry Township police officer. Two days later he stopped working because of the injury.

When he quit his job a year later, he was charged with defrauding Bureau of Workers’ Compensation while on disability.

Gamble pleaded guilty Monday to a lesser degree of attempted workers compensation fraud and was ordered to repay $10,000 in restitution to the BWC.

If the fine is not paid in full by the middle of October, he will be sent to prison for 90 days.
