Mayor cuts ribbon on Galaxy Seafood grand opening

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It was a packed house at Galaxy Seafood for its grand opening Monday.

Youngstown Mayor John McNally was on hand for the ribbon cutting.

The new fish market on Belmont Avenue is operated by Nevel’s Temple Church of God In Christ. The church will run the store and use the profits to support church ministries.

The Galaxy Seafood store was the scene of a 2011 shooting where a would-be thief was shot and killed by an off-duty Youngstown policeman.

Customers who were there Monday say the grand opening marks a new beginning.

“I think it is great for the community. We all need positive things. There is so much negativity going on now that to have something positive in this area is just great,” said customer Martel Allen.

Martel says she’s excited to be able to walk to buy fresh seafood. The first thing she plans to buy is crab legs.
