ODNR approves Brookfield injection well

BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Despite protests last month in Brookfield, a proposed injection well has been approved by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

ODNR approved the permit for American Energy of Cortland on July 5, just one day after a protest was held at the township green. They were issued the permit for a Class II saltwater injection well earlier this month.

The Cortland company wants to put a well 8,500 feet below the surface at state Route 7 and McMullen Drive near the water tower. It is about 1,500 feet from the Brookfield school complex.

The well will be used to dispose of water and waste from fracking by the oil and gas industry.

American Energy already operates approximately 80 wells in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
