Train club holds open house in Warren

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Handcrafted buildings, a lake and waterfalls may be the makings of a resort town, but on Friday, those items were on display at a model train open house.

The Riverside Railroad Club sponsors the only publicly-owned large-scale train layout in northern Ohio. The club started building the layout in 2002 on an overgrown piece of property behind the Warren SCOPE Center.

Members try to improve the layout with one big project every year.

Friday was one of two annual open houses the club has to show off its display. Membership is open to people who love trains.

“Anyone. You don’t have to have a G-scale train. Many of our members do not have their own layout or their own trains and this kind of fills in for those just interested in railroading,” Riverside Railroad Club member Michael Zador said.

The group relies on its two annual open houses and members’ dues to keep the train running. The next open house will be in the spring.
