Warren man charged with safe cracking

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man police say beat an ATM with a stick is now charged with safe cracking.

According to police reports, Jonathan David Brown, 33, of Perkinswood Boulevard, Warren, attempted to break into an ATM at the Seven Seventeen Credit Union on Youngstown-Kingsville Road in Vienna.

The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. on April 15. The incident was recorded on surveillance video showing a white pickup truck pulling up to the ATM. The passenger of the pickup, who police believe is Brown, jumped out carrying a stick.

Security officials with the ATM company said a putty-like substance was put over the lens of the camera on the ATM, but bank surveillance video captured the pickup pulling up to the machine.

Security officials also said the same type of damage was done to one of their ATMs at a Girard location that same night.

Brown was charged with complicity to safe cracking and vandalism. No money was taken.
