Event helps veterans connect with resources

SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) — For veterans, the amount of options they have for housing, jobs or school can be overwhelming, and sometimes they may not know where to look.

On Saturday, the Community Action Partnership of Mercer County with the Butler VA Medical Center held an event to help vets connect to agencies out there to help them.

It’s called Stand Down, and was held in Sharon.

Organizers said they hoped that once they know about the available services, veterans will stay connected.

“We were very overwhelmed with the strong response we received but it just goes to show you what kind of community Mercer County truly is,” said Family Development and Housing Counseling Manager Emily Rowe.

“So they help me out quiet a bit so im very well satisfied by coming here today,” added veteran Fred DeBonis.

28 vendors participated in the event. Some business even made donations so that the event could run as smoothly as possible.
