Mother of lost toddler facing charges

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — A woman will have to appear in court Monday after a police officer found her two-year-old wandering around by himself on a busy road.

The boy was found walking around a drainage ditch on Meridian Road near the on-ramp to Interstate 680. That’s about a half mile from his home on Oregon Avenue in Youngstown.

Officers said he was only wearing a diaper at the time and has some sort of special needs.

“We’ll certainly question the mother, figure out how he got out of the house, whether it was neglect or just a kid being a kid,” said Lt. John Kelty of the Youngstown Police Department.

The boy’s mother was issued a citation for child endangerment. Child Protective Services has also been notified.
