Ohio Dems set to examine Polivka

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – Trumbull County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Polivka will be the focus of at least part of the discussion Wednesday evening when leaders of the state party gather in Columbus.

At issue is the way Polivka and local precinct committee members chose a successor to the late Trumbull County Commissioner Paul Heltzel back in June.

They used secret ballots to pick Mauro Cantalamessa, something state party chair Chris Redfern said was improper.

But when Polivka refused to hold another vote, Redfern threatened to have him removed as chairman.

Wednesday night in Columbus, members of the Ohio Democratic Party’s Executive Committee will be discussing the issue.

WKBN will be there as well and will have reports this evening on what happens.
