Men indicted for sleepy traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Two gun-toting men who were found sleeping in a vehicle on Youngstown’s north side last month were indicted Thursday on weapons charges.

Derrick Taylor, 41, and Myron Washington, 57, each were indicted on two counts of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle and one count of possession of a dangerous ordnance, according to court records. Both men are free on bond.

Police said they were called about 7:30 a.m. July 27 to Front Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard near the Central Fire Station because two men were sleeping in a car on the street. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed both men had handguns on their waists, a police report states.

The occupants were not conscious, so police set up a perimeter and used a loudspeaker to wake them up. That is when police found a sawed-off shotgun in the car, the report states. Taylor was in the driver’s seat.
