Technology helps nab Cashland robber

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Technology helped Youngstown police catch a suspect just minutes after a robbery.

According to police reports, Lesean Edge went into Cashland on Midlothian Boulevard and headed for the TV section. He didn’t want help from employees but then approached the counter asking questions about a loan. That’s when he showed a gun and told three employees to give him money.

Little did he know the stack of cash had a tracking device in it.

Youngstown Police Captain Brad Blackburn said the man left the store in a rental car heading for Interstate 680. At that point, police were able to start using the tracking device.

“He fled at what turned out to be a rental car down 680. At that point, the officers were able to track him to that location and made an arrest,” Blackburn said. “They recovered property, including Cash Land property as well as the firearm used in the crime.”

The suspect was charged with aggravated robbery and was arraigned Wednesday in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Captain Blackburn said tracking devices are becoming more popular because they are small and in expensive.
