Small earthquake detected in Niles

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 1.8 magnitude earthquake hit about three miles northwest of Niles just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The epicenter was situated in the Bolindale area between Weathersfield and Niles.

The Niles fire department did not receive any reports of incidents during the event.

Trumbull County 911 also did not receive any calls.

A magnitude 1.8 is very low and may be difficult to detect.

The last quake to hit the Valley was in March when several tremors were recorded near the site of some gas wells in Poland.
