Donations critical for Red Cross

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – You’ll see many booths at the Canfield Fair but one in particular is looking for a life-saving donation.

The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood, despite an increase in donations. Through the end of July, the Red Cross saw an increase of approximately 7.5 percent in the number of donors coming to give blood, resulting in more than 11,800 additional donations beyond what was anticipated. However, hospitals are still in need of blood products.

Red Cross officials said blood is being shipped out as quickly as it comes in.

“There is no other substitute for blood. It has to come from a volunteer, from a human being. The need is always constant,” said Trisha Guth-Bronson, American Red Cross.

Every pint donated can save up to three lives by providing platelets, plasma and red blood cells.

Donors needed most are those with O, B and A negative blood.

The Blood Mobile at the Canfield Fair will be stationed there until 5 p.m. Monday. For other donations location and times, click here.
