Fair project locks community together

Rooster love locks at Canfield Fair

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A new addition at the Canfield Fair could become a family tradition. It’s called Lock of Love and the idea came from across the ocean.

The fair’s fine arts council created a big rooster made of wire and as a way to connect the community, everyone is asked to put a small padlock on the sculpture, but you don’t get to keep the key.

The Pont des Arts footbridge in central Paris is one of the best know Love Locks locations in the world and was the inspiration for the sculpture at the fair.

“You would put a lock on the bridge and you would throw away the key and it would be like secrets for love or anything like that,” said fairgoer Abbie Bowmaster. “I think that is where they got the idea and so that is why you are going to lock up your key for your families or anything like that.”

The goal is to have the rooster completely covered in locks. If you don’t have a lock, one can be purchased for $3.

The keys will be used for a future project.
