Man wanted on mental warrant wounded after pursuit

MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) – State police say a 30-mile police chase in western Pennsylvania ended with the suspect being wounded after shooting at police. No officers were injured.

Troopers tell the Valley News Dispatch the 41-year-old man was being sought by Monroeville police on an unspecified mental health warrant.

Officers tried to stop the pickup truck with spike strips at Routes 819 and 66 in Washington Township but the man turned onto a dead end in neighboring Bell Township before running away.

State police Cpl. Ronald Stonis says the man fired at officers, who then wounded him. Police say the man was in stable condition at a hospital, which they wouldn’t identify.

Police didn’t immediately identify the man or the officers involved in the shooting, saying several departments along the chase route were involved.
