YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — More than 150 runners proved that they’re “Youngstown Enough” in the city’s first ever Steelathlon.
The three mile urban adventure run celebrates the city. It includes obstacles like testing your balance on a log.. Climbing up a rope wall.. And sliding down on the other side. Organizers say they wanted to make the race a fun and cool running experience, since adventure runs are all the rage right now.
“We really wanted to find something that celebrated Youngstown, celebrated YSU, but also appealed to the masses so obstacles that everybody could handle but fit people could go through quicker and still win a prize,” said Erin Mellinger, Steelathlon organizer.
Mellinger says they hope to make the Steelathlon a new Youngstown tradition… And expects registration to open for next year’s race in January.
