AG says challenger should ‘disavow’ ads

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A week before early voting begins, Ohio’s incumbent Attorney General said his challenger should be ashamed of a new TV ad attacking his record.

Republican Mike DeWine made a stop in the Valley Tuesday. His appearance comes just days after a group calling itself the Moving Ohio Forward Network started running an ad claiming DeWine and his staff have been ignoring DNA evidence in rape cases, botching a murder investigation in the Sandusky area, and pocketing more than $1 million in campaign contributions.

Although the campaign for Democrat David Pepper did not pay for the ad itself, DeWine argues his opponent is responsible for it.

“The very least he can do is disavow it, say they ought to take it down. It is not accurate,” DeWine said. “I assume he knows it is not accurate.”

Ryan Monell, spokesperson for Moving Ohio Forward, which is based in Columbus, said there is more than enough evidence to support he claims in the ads.

“These claims that we make are true and Moving Ohio Forward Network stands by the veracity of these claims,” Monell said.
