Financial adviser sentenced for theft

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) –  A Cortland man will spend one year in prison for stealing money from an elderly woman.

Orlando Montoya, 37, was a financial adviser for New York Life when he stole $35,000 from a 92-year-old Austintown woman. He must also pay $540 to the victim for legal fees that got her savings back.

The victim’s daughter, Linda Davis, was emotional when she told the judge how this case has impacted her family.

“Put a lot of stress on our family, mostly my mother. She is now 94 and she still has not gotten over this. She has so much faith in Mr. Montoya,” Davis said.

Montoya told the judge he was sorry and was ashamed of what he had done. Once released from prison, he faces up to three years probation.
