Family holds vigil for crash victim

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Dozens of people came out to remember a motorcyclist who died in a crash that happened Friday in Youngstown.

The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Market Street, near Florida Avenue.

Youngstown Police haven’t released any details about what happened, but the family of Michael Dowdy told WKBN 27 First News that he did not survive.

Sunday evening, Dowdy’s family gathered at the spot of the crash to light candles, share memories, and say a prayer.

Michael had just gotten married last month.

“We didn’t get to spend a long time as newlyweds because we just got married Aug. 2, but he gave me my fairytale and we had a full, happy time together in the short time we had,” said Certuria Dowdy.

Dowdy’s sister Lisa Dowdy said her brother will be greatly missed.

“He was a beautiful person. Everybody you can see, everybody loves him,” Dowdy said.

Fellow motorcyclists also drove by as part of the remembrance. Friends signed a poster and created a makeshift memorial to honor Dowdy.
