Lowellville workers walk off job

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – Both sides in a local steelworkers strike met with each other and a federal mediator Friday afternoon.

About 100 workers with United Steel Workers 5025 walked off their jobs at Falcon Foundry in Lowellville after their old contract expired on Wednesday. Workers said wages and hospitalization are the key issues.

Managers said this is the first strike in the company’s nearly 60-year history. Falcon makes copper and bronze castings for use in the steel manufacturing industry.

Negotiations between the two sides are continuing.
