3 indicted in fatal Youngstown shootout

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Three men have been indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury in connection to an April 2012 shooting in Youngstown that left one man dead.

Kalontae Carter, 18, of Norwood Avenue and Dejuan Thomas, 33, of Osborn Avenue, were indicted Thursday on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and felonious assault. Thomas was also charged with having weapons under disability.

A third suspect, LaQuawn Hopkins, 36, of Schenley Avenue, was charged with tampering with evidence in the case.

According to prosecutors, Thomas and Carter fatally shot Kristopher Stewart, 26, on April 30 at Stuart’s home in the 2100 block of Elm Street.

Gunfire was exchange during the shooting hitting Thomas multiple times in the chest and torso and Carter was shot in the arm. Both walked to Saint Elizabeth Health Center’s emergency room about 20 minutes apart.
