WELLSVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – A river salvage company is in the process of bringing up a barge that sank in the Ohio River in Wellsville.
The barge was at the Quality Liquid Feed pier, carrying molasses used for animal feed. The company told First News that nothing leaked into the river.
Viewers sent in pictures of the barge through the Report It tab on WKBN.com.
Quality Liquid Feeds officials said that while the barge was at their pier, it does not belong to them, but is secure and in the process of being raised out of the water.
The U.S. Coast Guard was on the scene Wednesday. The local port authority does not have jurisdiction in the case.
Calls made to the West Virginia Environmental Protection Agency were not immediately returned. Officials with Ohio’s department said they did not receive any calls about the barge.
