Youngstown City Schools meet with community

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — In a community meeting held at Faith Community Covenant Church on East Midlothian Boulevard, Superintendent Dr. Connie Hathorn talked with people living in the city about what they are doing to improve the schools and the challenges the district face.

Hathorn said they have improved on most performance tests from year to year. He also said to make key improvements is making sure students believe they can achieve.

“If you start believing because they live in an urban school system, come from a bad background, you’re going to lower your expectation. We not going to do that,” said Hathorn.

He also said he and superintendents from eight other urban districts across the state talk on a regular basis to get ideas on ways to inspire students and achieve academic excellence.
