Volunteers turn out for Habitat build in Salem

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – WKBN 27 First News was Caring for Our community Saturday with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Columbiana County.

Volunteers from the station and our partners at Dallas Hartman law offices helped prime, paint and insulate Habitat’s latest home.

The excitement has been building for months for Lizbeth Scott. In just a few weeks, her husband and 8-year-old daughter Morgan will finally be home.

“She (Morgan) is going to be happy. She keeps going to school telling everybody she is ready to move. She is happy,” said Scott.

Since Habitat requires new owners to help a certain number of hours in the build, they have already become part of their new home putting in about 500 hours.

High school students who are members of Students Against Destructive Decisions also helped out at the construction site.

“We are just lucky to have been invited by WKBN to be part of it all. We are lucky to get a few of the lawyers and legal assistants out of the office for the day,” said volunteer Dallas Hartman.

Habitat started the build over the summer and volunteers were putting the finishing touches on the house.
