Police: Caller deceived Grove City woman for bail money

MERCER, Pa. (WKBN) – Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a suspect who they say conned a woman into sending bail money for her granddaughter, who was not in jail, according to a release sent Thursday.

According to the release, the woman received the call Tuesday around 4 p.m. The suspect claimed the woman’s granddaughter was in jail and needed money to be bailed out.

The victim sent the money and later discovered her granddaughter was not in jail.

Incidents in which people try to illegally get money out of the elderly are not uncommon. In March, WKBN reported on an incident in which seven Ohioans were charged with stealing about $400,000 from six elderly residents in Southwest Ohio.
