Ginter wins 5th District House seat

COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio (WKBN) – In one of the most contentious local races, Republican Tim Ginter has ousted incumbent Democrat Nick Barborak for the 5th District Ohio House of Representatives seat.

Ginter won by a margin of 59 percent to 41 percent, according to complete but unofficial results from the Columbiana County Board of Elections. Neither Ginter nor Barborak faced opposition in their primaries.

A television ad run by Ginter’s campaign accused Barborak of making illegal investments while he was Columbiana County’s Treasurer. An ad attacking Ginter, but not run by Barborak’s campaign, painted Ginter as too extreme.

“The people in Columbiana County take a hard look at their candidates and they don’t just buy in every time, you have to really earn their vote, and so I recognize that after a few days off, I have my work cut out for me. I am going to roll up my sleeves, go to Columbus and do as I promised for the people of Columbiana County,” Ginter said.

Barborak was elected to his office in 2012.
