YPD peacefully ends north side standoff

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown Police officers peacefully ended a standoff Monday afternoon by talking a man with a gun into getting a mental evaluation, according to officers on the scene.

Police said a man went into a house on West Dennick Ave. on Youngstown’s north side and got in an argument with someone inside, who called police.

When officers arrived, they realized the suspect had a gun and called for backup. Police eventually talked the man into peacefully surrendering and being checked out at a local hospital.

Seven Youngstown Police cruisers surrounded the house at one point.

YPD gave the all-clear for all of those cruisers except one at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, as schools in the area were dismissing students for the day.
