9-year-old girl hit, killed while crossing street

ABINGTON, Pa. (AP) – A 9-year-old girl in the Philadelphia suburbs was hit and killed while crossing the street.

Police say the child stepped out from between two parked cars in Abington shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday and was hit by an 18-year-old Abington woman.

The Intelligencer of Doylestown  reports the teen driver did not immediately stop. Police say she drove less than a mile to a parking lot and called her mother, who went to the crash scene and told authorities where to find her daughter.

Police declined to release the driver’s name.

The child was pronounced dead at a hospital. An investigation is continuing.
